Union Pizza Works is a converted warehouse space in the heart of Bushwick, a neighborhood that is transforming so quickly not just itself but the whole art scene in NYC. UPW was just a garage, the industrial look inspired the owners who build and renovated the place with their own hands, the pizza oven looks like a spaceship from Le Voyage Dans La Lune, and all the interiors are very peculiar.

HALF SUMO designed the logo, inspired by the industrial plants and warehouses with titles such as Union Iron Works, Union Machine Works, and the like. Few exist these days, but there is a building in Oakland, California's Jack London Square, which used to be a machine plant established in the 1880s titled "Union Machine Works". The factory is no longer in operation, but the old brick building still stands with its original painted sign. UPW refers to a union of people, united for good food, and good pizza commonly thought of as a food for the people – without pretence and accessible to all.
